In 1851 Br. Hymen from London migrated to Australia and with the authority of the AOD England, set up the first Druids Lodge.

The discovery of gold halted the Druid Society's development until 1861. At this time Br. Asher Barnard from Canterbury Kent established a lodge in Melbourne and the society began to flourish.
